TechnologyOne

TechnologyOne make the software that runs councils and universities. It’s the money, the services, the systems behind every day life. In Australia, they’re huge. In the UK, almost nobody had ever heard of them. That’s a tricky place to start. So how do you sell council software to people who’ve never heard of you? You don’t show the software. You show the people it’s for. Then the brief got bigger. Making good content for TV, mobile and computers is hard enough, but what if the screens are 30ft tall? What if the room has no front? How about making photographs… move? This is TechOne Showcase. The story of how we made content fill rooms, and gave software emotion.

Behind every council system and university platform is a family out for a walk, a student in a library, a binman on their round. Over nineteen projects, we’ve helped TechnologyOne tell those stories, building their presence in the UK one piece at a time. Showcase 2026 was where it all came together.

The moment that mattered most

Showcase is TechnologyOne’s flagship customer event, held once every two years, bringing key clients and prospects from councils and universities under one roof. In 2026, that roof was Outernet London, home to Europe’s largest digital screens and the place big brands go to launch things. For a company still building its name here, it was a once-in-two-years chance to show up like one, and we wanted to make every minute of it count.

The stories behind the shots

The groundwork started in summer 2025 with cinemagraphs: photographs with one small, living movement in them, showing the three sectors TechnologyOne serves. A family in the Lake District, a student at Royal Holloway, a binman in Birmingham. The fog rolled in so thick we could barely see the lake, which turned out to be exactly what the picture needed. Birmingham’s bins were on strike, so we brought our own lorry from Gloucestershire. And when a light needed to stand in the lake, one of our crew simply waded in.

The Showcase films were commissioned just before Christmas. By the 7th of January we were in Edinburgh, and over eight weeks we filmed at around 12 locations, from Blackpool and Bradford to Antrim and Havant. We asked people in the street what they want from their councils, sat down with customers, shot portraits across the UK, and told the social value stories behind every contract, from sleeping bags for homeless people in Blackpool to a scholarship for young women in tech in Bradford. When locations fell through, we found new ones, and everything was delivered a week early.

Five films, three screens

Outernet’s three screen spaces are all different shapes and sizes, so we made every film for the screen it played on.

The first video that opened the day was Together Tomorrow, and it had a job to do: introduce an Australian company to a room full of UK councils. We put TechnologyOne in touch with Dame Joanna Lumley through our own network, and the room knew her voice the moment the film started. R&D let customers explain, in their own words, what changed after switching to TechnologyOne. Two case studies, from Hertfordshire and North Tyneside, gave the breakout sessions real stories to talk about.

Then there was Social Values, the hero film. Just under five minutes, on screens covering four walls and the ceiling, with sound all around you. Nobody wants surprises on a day like that, so we recreated the experience in our own studio first, letting TechnologyOne see and hear exactly how it would feel. In the room itself, we learned that too much movement on screens that size makes people dizzy. TechnologyOne felt the footage was meaningful enough to slow down, and they were right, so together we made every move slower and kept the key moments at eye level.

“This whole project came about because our clients trusted us and they knew that we would execute to the standard that they needed us to.”

On the day

Our portraits covered the outside of the building. Inside, Together Tomorrow played to a packed room and Social Values to a full house, while our crew edited a highlights film live, ready to share before the day was out.

The difference it made

At the one event that mattered most, TechnologyOne didn’t talk about features at all. They showed a room full of councils and universities the people their work is really for.

We also planned for life after the event, and the footage kept working long after the Outernet’s doors closed. It’s since become follow-on case studies for Blackpool, Havant and Lincoln, plus a Bradford student film. From a standing start in the UK, TechnologyOne now have nineteen projects with us and a 10x return on the work we make together.

Drum B2B Award

Not bad for a software story with no software in it. Our entry, What would you ask your council? How StillMoving put the British public on the biggest screen in Europe for TechnologyOne, was a finalist in the Technology category. It’s a nod to the whole team, the people who stood in lakes and found a bin lorry mid-strike, and to a client who trusted us to get it right.
